Brush lettering tutorial: Real-life tricks

It has come to this. You have started your bullet journal or been looking at other people’s successes with their journals and couldn’t help yourself but feeling utterly envious of the simple ease with which presumably all the bullet journalers skillfully master their fonts and headlines. I hear you, I have been there, and I have searched many times for “brush lettering tutorial”.

I’ll be super honest with you, what you see online is so often the most perfected version of itself, in this case, brush lettering or faux calligraphy. Don’t get me wrong, I utterly admire all those wonderfully skilled artists out there that have mastered the skill of calligraphy and the art of brush lettering. I know from my own experience, it takes a lot of practice, patience, diligence, not giving up and bit more practice. Yes, and let’s add a bit more practice, please. After all, practice makes perfect. I have yet to come across a single brush lettering tutorial that shows the struggles the artists face.

And of the topic of being honest, I did study graphic design, a long time ago and for that, I had to take courses in calligraphy. Even so, brush lettering IS hard. Creating elegant swirls and holding the pen do come easily to me, yet my lettering is often not as perfect as I would like it to be. Nevertheless, I do not mean to discourage you. On the contrary. I am writing this post about brush lettering for you, to tell you to just dive in, hang in there and/or not give up. You will get there, all it takes is practice and accepting the stage you are in.

Brush lettering tutorial: Real-life trick #1: Tools

To get started, you won’t need to rush to by fancy paper or pens. Don’t get me wrong, I love fancy stationery, but there are less expensive options out there for sure. pens | www.westcoastdreaming.com/brush-lettering-tutorial-real-life-tricks What you will need:

  • Brush pen or Crayola pip squeak pen, brush and watercolor
  • Paper
  • Patience

Yes, a brush pen is probably best, but before spending money on a pen you probably run dry just by practicing your letters, you could practice the technique of holding it and varying pressure just as easily with a Crayola pip squeak pen. I borrow my daughter’s pens sometimes. Oops, another real-life trick comes out.Brush lettering tutorial:

Brush lettering tutorial: Real-life trick #2: Paper

The smoother the paper, the better for the pen. But again, don’t worry about buying fancy paper if you are just practicing with a practice pen. The exercise is just as effective. Tracing paper also helps, if you have that handy. Using lined paper also helps at first to get the hang of writing straight.

Brush lettering tutorial: Real-life trick #3: Technique

What do brush letters consist of? In short, thinner upstrokes, and thicker down strokes and some transitions in between. Let’s try. basic strokes | www.westcoastdreaming.com/brush-lettering-tutorial-real-life-tricks
Practice simple up and down strokes and fill a full page. Get a good feel for the pen and how much pressure it takes to create thinner versus thicker lines. Go and practice now. Once you feel confident, try to put up strokes and down strokes together in a waveform. Practice and fill another page.

Brush lettering tutorial: Real-life trick #4: Practice

I know you can’t wait to progress and get to use this font in your bullet journal. But again, think of the four P’s: grab your pen and paper and patience, and practice. Ok, I’ll give you two letters to practice the combined up and down strokes: n and u. n and u | www.westcoastdreaming.com/brush-lettering-tutorial-real-life-tricks
Done? Great, let’s move on. Let’s progress to the next level: curves. a | www.westcoastdreaming.com/brush-lettering-tutorial-real-life-tricks
The trick with curves is to not rush it and control the amount of pressure to the pen and angle you hold it in. Practice some a’s, e’s, c’s Now you can add strokes to curves like in the letter d, g or q. dgq | www.westcoastdreaming.com/brush-lettering-tutorial-real-life-tricks
Again, take your time, pick up the pen from the paper very briefly, if needed, and keep going.

Brush lettering tutorial: Real-life trick #5: Make things easier

d | www.westcoastdreaming.com/brush-lettering-tutorial-real-life-tricks

Have a look at your favourite brush lettering style and get familiar with the shape of each letter. Practice the flow of the letters with a regular fine tip pen to get the shape into your muscle memory. When this feels familiar switch to the brush pen. Fill pages and pages with your letters.

Brush lettering tutorial: Real-life trick #6: Cheat

Use a pencil to sketch out the word on your page. Either use a brush pen right away or add a second line next to your down-strokes to mimic the thin-thick effect and then fill the gap between the two down strokes and voila, you have created faux calligraphy. Yay. By using a pencil you see how much space the word takes up on your space and where you want your swirls to land.

Brush lettering tutorial: Real-life trick #7: Practice makes perfect

Do you see how many of these letters look uneven or have too little variation in the thickness of the stroke? It is because this takes a lot of practice. I can’t stress this enough. Practice makes perfect.

brush lettering tutorial - pinterest | www.westcoastdreaming.com/brush-lettering-tutorial-real-life-tricks

Brush lettering tutorial: Real-life trick #8: Large font

Another trick is to try a larger font first. The change between thick and thin strokes is way easier to master in a larger font. When you feel confident in lettering larger words, try your hand at smaller fonts.

Whenever you feel like it, start transferring your new skills to your bullet journal. Don’t be afraid of making mistakes. It is all part of the process. Thanks for reading. What do you struggle most with when it comes to hand lettering? Let me know, I would love to know how I can help you.

How to stay focused: 13 simple tricks

How to stay focused: 13 simple tricks

how to stay focused | www.westcoastdreaming.com/how-to-stay-focused

You might have read that I recently was overwhelmed and had to take a step back from the multitude of tasks that I put on my own to do list:

  • taking care of my family
  • being the best version of myself at my job
  • keeping the house clean (luckily I don’t have to shoulder that all by myself)
  • this blog, horse-back riding
  • taking riding lessons
  • looking after my health
  • working out
  • professional development
  • journaling
  • socializing for myself and my daughter
  • self-care

The list goes on. In short, I was having a hard time and needed to find a way on how to stay focused to follow my dreams.

As I outlined in “Feeling overwhelmed?”, to get better, I had to take a step back, scale down my pace and prioritize. I also tried the 15 minute-block challenge. While I enjoyed going through the exercise, I knew what I am spending my time on. In my opinion, the 15 minute-block method is great if you don’t have a good sense of where you spend your time. It reveals where there might be pockets of time that could be optimized and serves as a reminder to use “waiting time”. So far I haven’t been able to make dramatic changes. So I kept researching and exploring.

As it so often is the case with synchronicities, because you attract what you focus on, I came across this quote:

priority management quote

The simplicity of Mr. Maxwell’s statement struck a cord in me. Achieving your goals and living your dreams needs you to focus and manage your priorities.

Here are the 13 tips that help me focus:

1. Prioritize

When you prioritize your tasks, you create a clear mental picture of where you want to focus your energy. Even though 20 things may seem like a top priority right now, something has to give. You are only human!
Put everything you need to do and accomplish on a piece of paper or in your bullet journal and write it down. The Brain Dump exercise might give you an idea of where to start. Then, go through and find the top three things that you need to tackle first.

2. One thing at a time

Being able to multitask is praised as a top quality in any employee. But there is a steep price that multitaskers pay. According to a 2009 Stanford Study, multitaskers are more easily distracted and have a decreased memory capacity and ability to switch from one task to the next.
Even computers are not able to multitask: they process one 0 or 1 at a time. They are just extremely fast at it.

Stopping constant multitasking is something I learned quickly at my current job. There are always a million things to do, and they all seem to be most important right now! The pace is fast, but when it is at its fastest, I put my head down and focus only on one thing at a time: when it is time to put the monthly newsletter together, I clear everything else off my desk. I get the distracting and interrupting tasks like emails, social media content creation and scheduling out of the way, and then fully dedicate my attention to writing, image creation and putting it all together.

3. Take a break

Breaks are as important as getting things done. Give your body and brain a break from the task at hand and relax your eyes and your mind. It can be as little as taking a 20 sec screen break, to getting some tea or coffee or even going for a walk during lunch. I am still amazed what a walk over lunch does for me. When I come back, I am energized, focused and much more balanced during the afternoon.

4. Get organized

Being organized is much more than having an up-to-date to-do list and decluttering your space. They are important pieces to the puzzle, but there is even more that you can do to bring focus and clarity to your life. Here are a few simple ideas on how to stay focused and organize your life:
• Place items such as phone, keys, wallet, sunglasses always in the same spot
• Put your monthly bills in a stack and pay them on time
• Lay out your clothes for the next day
• Keep a running grocery list. I use this great app call Bring.

Bringing order into your life will help you stay on track and on focus so you can devote your energy to your main goals in life.

5. Quiet Place

A quiet space to work that keeps outside distractions to a minimum helps you stay in your zone and lets your creativity flow. Some people work well with music; others prefer to work without. Find out where your sweet spot is.

6. Keep work at work

In today’s day and age, it seems that there are real pressures on many of us to take work home and be available beyond working hours. Where it is sometimes necessary to work overtime to get the job done, research has shown that doing it consistently depletes mental and physical energy. If we are not able to detach from work, we might be detaching from important personal relationships sooner or later. Keeping healthy boundaries will let you arrive at work refreshed, focused and with the ability to be innovative. Here is a great article on detaching from work on Psychologytoday.com.

7. A good night’s sleep

Getting consistently enough sleep is vital to a healthy mind and body and keeping you excited about your day and your goals. According to the National Sleep Foundation, adults between the ages of 26 – 64 should get, on average, between 7-9 hrs of sleep per night.

8. Exercise

Do you feel you have “brain fog” a lot or are increasingly forgetful? Regular exercise releases chemicals in your brains that will positively impact your memory, concentration, and mental focus, according to the Harvard Medical School. If you exercise your body, you also exercise your brain. Rigorous exercise will also allow you to shut off your brain that keeps running up and down your to-do lists.

stay focused bujo pinterest cover | www.westcoastdreaming.com/how-to-stay-focused

9. Devote specific hours to tasks

When you plan your week ahead, devote specific hours to specific tasks, like checking your email in the morning, after lunch and before the end of your day. Get the most important tasks tackled in the morning, when your focus and energy are the freshest. This will give you a sense of accomplishment and you will be able to see how you make progress every day.

10. Embrace doing nothing

There is nothing wrong with taking some time away from your to-do list. Scientists suggest that spending time in meditation or simply doing nothing at all are essential to our mental and physical health, increase productivity and creativity. The Italians even have a name for the art of doing nothing: ‘Dolce far niente‘ or The sweetness of doing nothing.

11. Declutter

Clutter is a huge form of distraction not only in your workspace but also in your life. You don’t have to become a clean-o-maniac, but make sure that your space, home, or office is beneficial and conducive to achieving your goals and following your dreams.

12. Minimize distractions

When you are working on your goals, say no to all distractions: email, social media, TV, gaming, or your mobile phone. Electronics are usually the worst offenders. You can feel busy with busy-work, but not get the big-ticket items on your list done.

13. Nourish your body

Your health is the most important asset you have in your life. Money, friends, great dreams become secondary if you are lacking in health. Nourish your body with what it really needs to stay focused. Everybody is different and you need to find out what works best for you.

Speaking of synchronicities, this is a story that I recently read in a newsletter, which I usually delete without reading (how ironic, I know), and since then realized it can be found all over the internet, albeit with slight alterations.

Focus on the glass of water

One day, a new employee went to the HR manager and said, “I’m not interested in coming to the office anymore.” The HR manager responded, “But why?”

“There are people who do a lot of politics and talk negatively all the time. Some are gossiping constantly,” the young man replied.

“OK, but before you go, can you do one last thing? Take a full glass of water and walk three times around the office without spilling a drop on the floor. After that, leave the office if you wish,” countered the HR manager. “Heck, it’s a matter of minutes,” thought the young man, so he walked three times around the office with this full glass of water in hand.

As he reached the HR office the HR manager asked, “When you were walking around the office, did you see any employee speaking badly about another employee? Any Gossips?” The young man replied, “No.” Then the HR manager asked, “Did you see any employee looking at other employees the wrong way?” The young man repeated, “No.” “Do you know why?” asked the HR manager and the young man replied again, “No.”

“The reason you didn’t see any of that is that you were focused on the glass, to make sure you didn’t tip it and spill any water and the same goes with your life. When our focus is on our priorities, we don’t have time to see the mistakes of others,” explained the HR manager.

Bonus tip:

How to stay focused time and time again? It helps if you love what you do. Whether it is your work, your side hustle, your goals and dreams you follow, we can all come back to our focus, because we are motivated to follow our passion. However, it is not always that easy to love what you do. Try to use the impetus of what you don’t love as motivation to make a change that does inspire you. But that topic is certainly worth its own article.

Look after your health, physically and mentally, focus on your priorities and your goals and dreams will be within your reach. Happy focusing and I’d be curious to know what works for you and what you struggle with most when it comes to staying focused.

80 Habit Tracker Ideas for your Bullet Journal

80 Habit Tracker Ideas for your Bullet Journal

habit tracker ideas | www.westcoastdreaming.com/80-habit-tracker-ideas-bullet-journal

Have you tried to incorporate a new habit into your life to improve your quality of life? Or maybe you have tried to increase, let’s say, your daily water intake using a habit tracker? If you are like me you probably have tried out new habits and failed at times and succeeded in some others.

Using a habit tracker, what did you find? Is it just one more thing on your to-do list or are you struggling with finding the perfect app or system that works for you? Well, your bullet journal is a great place to start. I’ll show you 80 ideas for habits to track using your journal. With a journal, you have total control over how your “app” will look, everything you want to track is in one place and you will create the perfect system that fits your needs. Do you need more reasons for starting to track your habits in your bullet journal? Glad you asked.

Benefits of using a habit tracker

For a new habit become second nature to you, it takes on average more than two months for a new behaviour to become a real habit. If you absolutely want a number, experts say that 66 days of performing an action daily a new habit will set in. This all depends though on each individual person and circumstances.

Using a habit tracker will

  • Make it likelier to achieve your goals
  • Give you a sense of everyday accomplishment and a feeling of being in control
  • Show you how you are doing with your goals
  • Offer insights into new ways to adjust if need be

“The secret of your success is found in your daily routine.” – John C Maxwell

If you are looking to create a series of new habits, experts recommend to work on one at a time and then build on the established habit. Let a habit be the trigger for your new habit. For example: When you wake up, drink one cup of water. When you mastered that, you can add the next habit, such as practice your daily affirmations. And so on. Stack your habits so to speak.

How to track your habits

When it comes to tracking your habits, it is all about your personal preference. Use whatever system that works best for you and that you enjoy the most. Remember, tracking takes determination to keep going, just like your new habit.

Here are a few ideas for tracking your habits:

  • Bullet journal
  • App on your phone or computer
  • Paper
  • spreadsheet

Habit Tracker Ideas for your Bullet Journal

Depending on the tracker and habit that you want to cultivate, you can use a daily, weekly, monthly or annual tracking system. Some work better than others. I just created a double page with all the things I want to track this year. Somewhere during the process, I realized that I should have opted for a monthly tracker spread though.

If you would like to increase your water to eight glasses per day (approx. 2l) you might feel more motivated to track each glass of water you drink. Therefore a daily tracker in your weekly log might be most helpful. For most trackers, a monthly spread works really well.

Feeling overwhelmed? Why I need to heed my own advice right now.

Feeling overwhelmed? Why I need to heed my own advice right now.

I must admit I feel a little bit foolish right now. Here I am chasing my own dreams, getting ahead and thinking that things couldn’t work out any better. Until I sat at my chiropractor’s office and going over my test results that show clearly that I have been running at full speed without refueling for a bit too long. I am feeling overwhelmed. Big time. My body is telling me to slow down.

Why is everything a bit too much all of a sudden? Why am I feeling so overwhelmed? Am I not following my dreams with this blog, with going riding, with the dream job that I have, with starting to work out more, with daily affirmations, bullet journals and social media channels that want to be updated every day? Typing this all out it becomes obvious to me, doesn’t it? But I love all those things and they make me happy. As I said, I am feeling a bit foolish right now.

Maybe for the first time ever, I am extremely driven and determined, because I am following my dreams. I was and still am utterly surprised that this let to an impasse. Isn’t following your dreams the ultimate goal? Sigh, yes, but it needs to be sustainable. My mind tells me “blah blah” right now and all I want to do is poke my tongue at myself with every sentence I write. I should heed my own advice for a change and do all the things I write about. I usually do, but I clearly have not taken good care of myself in the last little while.

What to do when feeling overwhelmed?

So what would be my own advice? Taking a good look at my older posts about self-care, time management and all the bullet journal prompts, I came to the conclusion, that yes, they were all valid. So I decided to get to the root of the problem and assessed this whole mess. Where to start? Glad you asked.

Be gentle to yourself

Take a moment to breathe. Or a day, or two, or a week. Whatever you feel you need to catch your breath. Don’t judge yourself or how you are feeling. This feeling of overwhelm is there to protect you, as weird as it sounds. If you would not have noticed somehow, you could have developed a serious condition. We are experts at fooling ourselves and talking us into thinking that everything is fine when we should take it slow.

I was, and still am a little bit, convinced that everything was going fine, and I felt great. Honestly, this came as a shock to me. I’ll try not to feel defeated by this realization and rather use it as an impetus to tweak and grow.

Brain Dump

Let’s start with a Brain Dump, where you dump all your tasks or any stray thoughts onto a page. I used my bullet journal for this. *winkwink*. Get it all out there. Let it sit and just look at it. Overwhelming? Go figure.

You could compare this to a download of information from your brain onto a page. You become more calm, regain mental space and quieten your mind that tried to hold onto every thought and task, running like a hamster in it’s wheel.

Prioritize

Categorize all your tasks into the following categories (or any that make sense to you):

  • Necessity (don’t forget to add sleep and eat)
  • Wants
  • Nice to have
  • Health etc.

This practice will help you see a clear big picture. After putting everything on paper, it will become more evident what is important to you, what has to be accomplished and what could be postponed until some later time.

Strategize and cut back excess

Create, your daily schedule, because after all, a day has only 24 hrs. I followed Matt Ragland’s 15 Minute Block system. Fill in the hours with the necessities like work, sleep, eat, commute and family. Then add your wants as they are what make you happy: friends, hobbies, working out, ME TIME. Start with your current schedule and look for ways to optimize it, then run with it for a week. After a week of diligent tracking, you might have gained valuable insights on how to tweak things. Make sure you add breathing room or small pockets of me-time. Can you optimize your daily schedule or cut back to work on your dreams for one hour a day. You can achieve a lot in one hour per day. Check out my article about time management.

Get help

It is always a good idea to reach out to others and seek help. Simply acknowledging the fact that you are feeling overwhelmed is a good step in the right direction. Talk to your partner, a friend, a doctor or practitioner. You will know what is best for you. By noticing, acknowledging and working on the challenges that presents itself before us, we grow into an even better version of ourselves.

Regroup

Keep focusing on the end goal, reducing stress and the feeling of overwhelm. Test out your new strategy or schedule and run with it for a week. If it doesn’t work, go back to the drawing board and change it. This needs to work for you and nobody else.

What I am doing about all of my mess?

I started to slow down. Then I decided to share this with you as it feels the most authentic to me. I would not be authentic if I couldn’t share that I too get overwhelmed sometimes. So finally, this past week, i heeded my own advice and assessed my own to-do list, daily tasks by using the brain dump method. Scaling back my own expectation was the biggest challenge for me. Now, I committed myself to the 15 Minute-block time-track challenge to assess the use of my time and see how I could optimize it. In addition, I prioritized going back to a regular Pilates routine and seeing my chiropractor to get back in shape. Even though I feel like I’d rather be an ostrich putting my head in the sand, I keep repeating my affirmation – you could also call them a mantra – “You can do this!”

feeling overwhelmed pin | https://westcoastdreaming.com/feeling-overwhelmed/

And now?

Feeling overwhelmed is never a good feeling. However, that you notice what is going on is a huge step forward. You can only get better when you know that something is not going right. Give yourself a pat on the back for it. I mean it. Do it now. That’s nice.

Don’t forget to breathe and take it slow. As slow as you need. You will be able to get back on track!

Positive affirmations can radically change your life

Positive affirmations can radically change your life

Do you find yourself often stuck in a negative thought spiral? “I can’t do this.” “I am not good enough.” “I will never get this right.” Do these sound familiar? Do you also, from time to time, have to work really hard to ward off negative thoughts or even use positive affirmations? This might be, in part, because our brains are equipped with a greater sensitivity to negative information than positive, also called “negativity bias“. In laymen terms: since prehistoric times our brains evolved with this bias for a good reason: to keep us out of harm’s way. But as our survival does not depend on spotting the deadly saber-toothed tiger anymore, our brain’s bias for negative information puts us in harm’s way in quite different ways. Do you ever experience how your negative thoughts seem to become self-fulfilling prophecies? When we talk ourselves down long enough we start to believe what our brain constantly whispers into our ears and in return, our personal lives, relationships, and careers take a turn for the worse. As our brains are on autopilot most of the day to filter the flood of information, how do we take charge of our thoughts and turn off autopilot for those negative thoughts? Why don’t you give positive affirmations a try? Positive affirmations are by no means wishful thinking, they are rather a scientifically proven way to shape your thoughts, attitude and ultimately your reality.

What are affirmations exactly?

Affirmations are positive statements, often repeated numerous times throughout the day, that can help you stay motivated, overcome self-doubt, the all-too-well known negativity, boost confidence and set a positive state of mind for the day ahead. You can think of positive affirmations as a workout for your mind. If you exercise a move or a group of muscles, in this case, your brain, over and over again, sooner than later the move will become natural and you will be able to follow through the motions with ease. This is just as true for your brain, because your brain strengthens the connections between the neurons associated with a task, move or thought, every time you repeat the action. Luckily for you, your brain is just looking for ways to set you up for success and is eagerly awaiting the next command, you just have to task it to process positive affirmations.

Here is how to do it:

In order for affirmations to work, phrase them positively and in the present tense. That is the language our brains work with best. Even though we might be dwelling too much on the past or worrying about the future, our neurons fire only in the here and now, so commands in the present tense are most easily put into action. Close your eyes and see how you feel when you say these two things: “I am calm and at ease.” versus “I am not stressed.” What do you feel? Do you start to think about the past stress that you are trying to NOT feel?

Here are 36 positive affirmations that set you up for success:

  1. I am manifesting my desires.
  2. Today, I make magic.
  3. I believe in myself and my ability to succeed.
  4. Something wonderful is about to happen to me
  5. I choose happiness.
  6. My mind is open to the possibilities.
  7. I can do anything I put my mind to.

Now that your ideas are flowing and you might have already picked your favourite affirmations, how should you best use them? Keep them where you are reminded of them often:

  • In your journal that you open in the morning before you get out of bed
  • On your bathroom mirror
  • As your background of your computer monitor
  • On your phone’s screen
  • Nicely framed on your favourite wall at home
  • When you have to renew your passwords, pick a positive reminder
  • As a bookmark

To radically change your life, go out and find the affirmations that speak the most to you and create constant reminders for yourself. Get my positive affirmations for your computer screen, bullet journal or poster for your home. Look at them as much as you can, just printing them once will not do the trick. “But I have them here in my book!” you might say. As with your goals and dreams, you need to take action and repeat YOUR positive affirmations daily. Just watch and see how your life will transform. If I can do it, you can do it too.

Five simple secrets to achieve your goals in 2019

Five simple secrets to achieve your goals in 2019

5 Simple secrets to achieve goals in 2019 | www.westcoastdreaming.com/secrets-to-achieve-goals-2019
New Year, New You. This is absolutely possible and you are the only person who can renew and reinvent yourself. With every new year, comes the chance to look back on your last year and set resolutions on how to do/be/get better in the new year. Are you also one of the New Year’s resolutions setters? Or haters? How many people are actually able to keep up their resolutions? Or how many times have you heard or thought: New Year’s resolutions don’t work, goal setting is impossible, I just can’t stay motivated or “It is too hard”? Let me share five simple secrets with you how you will be able to achieve your goals this year and be excited to keep working on them. Yes working. The way to living the life of your dreams is work, but it should be fun, and it is definitely worth it.

For the bullet journal enthusiasts among you, I have included four spreads that you can steal to dream big, plan and achieve your goals in 2019!

Secret #1 Set inspired goals

2019 goals brain dump | www.westcoastdreaming.com/secrets-to-achieve-goals-2019

When you start this process, allow yourself to dream big. Put every single goal, dream or wish you can come up with on a piece of paper, in a bullet journal or your preferred method of noting things down. Make sure though that you write it down. The act of putting words to a page, even if it is in digital form, allows your brain to let go of the thought and stops your mind from spiraling ineffectively about the same idea.

Now, look at your list and assess your thoughts and cross check them with your values and what will really bring you joy and fulfillment. Let go of the goals that you might think you have to strive for, or what you observe others do. Pick the top three that you feel excited about. This doesn’t mean you cannot achieve smaller goals on the side, but if you chose too many projects, you will most likely feel overwhelmed and be tempted to give up. Selecting the most important three goals will help you stay focused and on track. Remember, this is supposed to be fun as well.

secrets for achieving goals 2019 | www.westcoastdreaming.com/secrets-to-achieve-goals-2019

Secret #2 Be realistic

While it is great to have big dreams and harbour them, it is also important to stay realistic. I would love to have my own digital product line and sell them successfully to thousands of people, but I realize that I will probably not be able to achieve this in this year. I have a full-time job and a family. It is more realistic for me to aim for creating and launching one digital product this year. This does not mean though you should refrain from setting the bar high. Go ahead and challenge yourself and don’t let fears hold you back. Stay true to your values and passions, consider the time you have available to work on your goals and the resources you can devote to them.

quote and affirmations | www.westcoastdreaming.com/secrets-to-achieve-goals-2019

Secret #3 Be specific

Now that you have selected three goals, think about what success would look like. Play out the scenario in your head and try to capture the feeling you have when your dream has come true. Now, write down your three goals and be very specific how you describe them. Avoid any vague descriptions. This is one of the main reasons why most resolutions fail. Let’s say eating more healthy is your goal. What does this look like? Eat fewer carbs, less meat, more vegetables, decrease sugar? Consider what and why this is important to you. When you describe your goal in detail it is much easier to break it into actionable steps.

Secret #4 Take inspired action

How excited are you to start working on your goals right now? Very much? Can you see the steps you need to take to reach your goals and fulfill your dreams?  Write down the steps you need to take on your way to success. The more steps you build in for you, the easier the process will become. Even a marathon runner takes each step at a time. Many small steps will bring you to the finish line.

Build in times to rest, to treat yourself for reaching a milestone making sure you have fun along the way. Along the way, have check-ins with yourself: “Does this goal still inspire me”? Circumstances and goals can change along the way. Don’t hold on to things that don’t suit you any longer. Rather adjust and tweak.

Secret #5 Hold yourself accountable

2019 goals accountability plan | www.westcoastdreaming.com/secrets-to-achieve-goals-2019

After you dreamed up your top three goals, envisioned success, evoked them using specific words and defined the steps you needed to take, you are now ready to hold yourself accountable.
You can do this in a variety of ways:

  • Tell a friend and ask them to hold you accountable and cheer you on.
  • Set milestones within a timeline
  • Set a to-do list in your weekly bullet journal spread and make sure you work towards them.
  • Reward yourself for reaching milestones (i.e buy a set of new brush pens that you are only allowed to use when you have reached a certain point. Make it interesting for yourself)

With each new point, I cannot quite make up my mind which is the most crucial step in the process, probably because they all depend on each other. And this true for this step as well. I am tempted to proclaim this as the most important step.

There will be times where you will want to give up, where you feel a lack of energy to pick up where you left off, where you feel overwhelmed or try to convince yourself that your goal is no longer important to you. This is your mind trying to trick you into going the path of least resistance. Don’t despair, this is normal. Just know that such a phase might hit you, I am in one right now. Push through. Your dreams are worth it!

Are you ready to rock 2019? What will inspire you to take action and hold yourself accountable? In order to achieve your big dreams this year, you will need to commit yourself to your dreams and goals! Work on them every day and you will succeed! You can do it!

Review, reflect, rejig, reset: How your personal end-of-year review will help you crush your goals in 2019

Review, reflect, rejig, reset: How your personal end-of-year review will help you crush your goals in 2019

Have you reviewed your year 2018 yet? But, aren’t New Year’s resolutions enough trouble? With this powerful end-of-year review you can assess and appreciate this past year in three simple steps for success in 2019.

Reviewing a year gone by, as much as any project at work, will help you celebrate your successes and give you a clear view of what worked and what you could do differently.

When you reflect on what went well, what was freaking awesome and what could have gone better, you will be able to rejig your approach and reset your goals for the year ahead. You’ll find good moments from the past year to commit to your memory, celebrate your victories and learn from your mistakes.

And the best part, it is lots of fun. In your end-of-year review, you’ll reminisce, note down everything that you feel is worthy of your time and attention, and then you can let go. Your paper, notebook, or bullet journal will hold the information for you and you can get back to it whenever you feel like it.

So how to best go about it? Here’s what you can do:

End-of-Year Review

Currently, my favourite quote is: Happiness is perceived progress.

Look back at your past year and remember the good, the bad and the ugly. This will help you appreciate the progress you have made. A bullet journal is ideal for this. Every day I make a quick note on how I spent my free time. I either worked on my big goals or if I didn’t, I might have just taken the evening off. To me, that also counts as a win, as I always complained before about not having enough “down time”. Just the fact that I note it down, makes me realize that I do have time where I relax. My weekly goals help me stay on track and I can enjoy a “night off”. No more guilt! The secret is all in where your attention is on.

In your end-of-year review, jot down your thoughts based on the following categories

  • Highlights of the past year
  • Achievements
  • To be Thankful for
  • Lessons learned
  • Things to improve

List of favourites:

  • Funniest moment of the year
  • New friend(s) you made
  • Best food
  • Treasured family memory
  • Movie you liked the most
  • Favourite song/band

These are two examples of how I reviewed my past year in my bullet journal:

Circular timeline

Level 10 Life

In step #2 you will reflect on your life by using a tool called Level 10 Life

This is how to do it: Decide on the areas of your life you would like to review. The list below may inspire you to find your own.

  • Family
  • Partnership
  • Friends
  • Finances
  • Career/Job
  • Health and Fitness
  • Fun and Recreation/leisure
  • Giving
  • Home/Physical environment
  • Personal Growth and Development
  • Spirituality

Choose 10 areas that resonate most with you or you find most important in your life.

Then, asses each area by asking yourself the following questions:

  1. On a scale from 1-10, with ten being the happiest/best, how would you rate your INSERT AREA 1?
  2. Why is your number at this level?
  3. What would it take to reach a higher level?

Note down all your answers and then move to the next area.

Level 10 Life is most times accompanied by the page Level 10 Goals. On it, you can write down your ideas on how to increase your happiness in this specific area. Remember the question you asked yourself earlier “What would it take to reach a higher level?” Your answer will guide you in filling out your goals.

For my bujo friends out there, you can also chart out your findings in this Level 10 chart

In my Level 10 Life I assessed the area spirituality with 7. My Level 10 Goals list that I could meditate to increase this area. I have heard so many good things about regular mediation but never got around to it. To be fair, I haven’t figured out yet how to include this into my daily routine, but I thought I could at least use daily affirmations to set myself up for success in the morning: Mini-meditation. Yay! And bam got one thing covered without stressing myself out about having to meditate daily.

19 before 2019

Are you still thinking about the dreaded resolutions? The ones that nobody ever keeps?

New Year’s resolutions cannot work if you don’t plan out your goals, break them into achievable steps AND have fun along the way. The 19 before 2019 bucket list is a fun way to end your year and might give you a head start on your resolutions.

On it, you come up with 19 things you want to be doing before the end of the year 2018. Make it to whatever you want! This is your list, it should not be arbitrary. Most importantly, you should have FUN with it.

Hope you had or will also have lots of fun with your review of 2018. Let me know how your review goes. I would love to hear from you.

How do I slay my goals this December?

How do I slay my goals this December?

It is the middle of December, it gets darker every day and has been wet for days. The most wonderful time of the year seems to be rushing by with lightning speed, where I had sworn myself to enjoy it more this year. If you are like me, this time of year often comes with anticipated dread of rushing to get everything done and organized before the holidays; parties, that many of us have to attend through work, or our partners’ workplaces or children’s holiday recitals and concerts; planning of the meals for the holidays itself; finding the perfect gifts. It all can be very joyful and stressful at the same time. So, how to slay your goals and follow your dreams during this busy time of year?

how do I slay my goals this december | Pinterest | www.westcoastdreaming.com/how-do-i-slay-my-goals-this-december/Making time to create a plan for the holiday season or let alone the New Year may seem to be the furthest from your mind. However, this is all I have been thinking about lately.

  • What if I planned out the month of December and got my A-game on? Would I feel more relaxed?
  • What if I reviewed this past year and set goals for the next one now? Would this give me a head start to slaying my goals or even those “dreaded” resolutions?

In German, we have a saying “Gut geplant ist halb gewonnen” which translates approximately to: “Good planning is halfway to success”. And this is exactly how I think we can achieve our biggest dreams: Dream Big – Plan Carefully – Act Inspired – Live your dreams!

With this post, I wanted to give you an update or glimpse “behind the scenes” of what I’m up to, how I plan my goals, slay them and what’s in store for you:

Holiday Season

Our daughter is three years old now and it is a lot of fun to explore the holiday season and traditions with her. I am more in tune with the holiday spirit than I have been for many, many years. We have two advent calendars in our house: One hand-made one that we fill each year with little more or less healthy surprises and a playmobile-calendar one from grandma. The house is decorated in a most simplistic fashion, we light candles for dinner, sing holiday songs and read Christmas stories before bed. Experiencing this season through our daughter’s eyes makes the magic alive again. We rarely watch TV, but I think a short and traditional Christmas movie would be so much fun.

I realize now, it is up to us to make the holiday season magical. We just need to stop and do it, even if it is in baby steps. Baby steps will lead to tiny improvements, but improvements they are none the less. Enjoy.

Riding

Did I ever mention that I have been leasing a horse since the end of September? For a monthly fee, I see “my” horse Nina once or twice per week and get to ride her or work with her. When I have time, I try to help out with paddock chores. I keep telling myself, if I really want to live the horsey dream, I better not complain about doing chores. Riding is just the icing on the cake. Since the days have gotten darker in November, I have been riding every Sunday. I am so blessed to have found this family who welcomes me with open arms, shares their knowledge about horses and letting me lease Nina.

Nina, a most gorgeous black Canadian mare, is just the perfect amount of sweet and bossy/stubborn. She is challenging me, which ultimately makes me a better horsewoman. She is not particularly cuddly, but I cuddle her none the less, which she gracefully endures. Every time I am around her, I fill my bucket with so much joy and happiness. That gives me a lot of energy for other areas in my life, like my family, this blog and work.

Blogging

I have been feeling stuck lately. I am working on regularly creating meaningful content (1x/week), feeding my social media channels and driving traffic to my page, because what is a blog without an audience?

I set myself monthly and weekly goals in my bullet journal, but as I am still a rookie it is a lot to take in. Utilizing my journal helps a lot with following through with my tasks that bring me closer to my dream. However, working full time, with a considerable daily commute, family life and learning how to successfully blog, has led to feeling overwhelmed. To be honest, it did not come as a surprise to me that I feel stuck. This is part of the process of learning, growing while being challenged.

How did I get unstuck? I sat myself down and brainstormed content ideas for the rest of the year, the New Year and the direction I would like to take with this blog: inspiring you to live your dreams and achieve your goals by providing a system that keeps you organized while nurturing a positive mindset.

For December, I would like to share with you:

  • How to review your past year and why I think you should do it
  • How to plan the end of the year with daily logs and mini challenges
  • How to set your goals for the year ahead and stay on track; and
  • Ideas for New Year resolutions you will want to keep

Stay tuned!

Reading

Before I started out with West Coast Dreaming at the end of May, I had been reading lots of happy-sappy novels, just to have something heart-warming to think about before falling asleep. It was my crutch to not fall into despair. Lately, I feel I don’t need this crutch so much anymore. I still like to read these types of books from time to time, but it is not quintessential to my survival anymore. Yes, yes, I exaggerate (a lot) here.

Nowadays I find myself reading E squared, by the hilarious Pam Grout which gives you 9 Do-it-Yourself Energy Experiments that prove your thoughts create your reality.

So far I have completed two of the nine experiments and… they work! I was blown away, by how they work. I kind of knew, yet doubted it. If this of any interest of you I can share my experiences in more detail.

Music

I have turned to my all-time favourite songs, songs that I would describe as powerful and that fill me with positive energy. If you are imagining that your body is just energy vibrating on a certain frequency, then music does affect and influence you. I can feel my body and mind responding to the music.

When I am writing, or when alone in the car, I turn to them. They make everything flow easier and I imagine how things around me begin to flow. I leave most mainstream music behind – even though there is nothing wrong with it – and turn to my oldies but goldies, my favourite Hans Zimmer soundtracks and the occasional Dutch or Finnish Symphonic Metal band. Guilty!

Bullet Journal

As some of the more seasoned Bullet Journalers among you might have noticed, I am still a novice to this amazing system. I came across bullet journaling almost by accident when I started this blog and felt the need to jot down notes, achievements, and to-dos. I am amazed by how quickly you can progress with your journal and how it improves my happiness and goal slaying ability. Hahaha, this almost sounds like it should be the name of a superpower: Goal slaying ability.

With the end of the year close by, I am wondering if I should start a new book or keep going in the one that I currently have. This is where I am at: my current journal where I plan my months, weeks and days, take notes during my e-courses and sketch out post ideas. There are two more journals that I use to show you the “how-to” Bullet Journaling and “how-to” creating intricate tangle patterns. If I do start the new journal, the current one will become solely dedicated to keeping track of ideas for West Coast Dreaming. What do you think?

That was it. Now you know what I’m up to and how I slay my goals this December. Thanks for reading and let me know if you have any questions or suggestions.

Your West Coast Dreamer, Nikola

10 Winter Themes to include in your Bullet Journal

10 Winter Themes to include in your Bullet Journal

10 winter themes for your bullet journal | www.westcoastdreaming.com/10-winter-themes-bujo

With the beginning of December and stores and houses decorated for the holiday season, it sure feels like winter is upon us. This is a great time to get a head start on your holiday goals and what better way to do that than in your favourite Bullet Journal? Here are 10 Winter Themes for you to include in your Bullet Journal that will get you on track with your goals and in the holiday mood.

December monthly log

december monthly log | www.westcoastdreaming.com/10-winter-themes-bujo

I started this winter journal-journey with my December monthly log. I was done in 5 minutes, and the winter-themed craft paper that I bought 4 years ago came in handy. For the circles, I simply used a glass. No fancy stuff needed, but hey, if you have it, go for it!

December log –minimalistic version

december monthly log minimalistic | www.westcoastdreaming.com/10-winter-themes-bujo

Then I thought that I should show you how the same or similar idea would look without the wintery-themed paper. Eh voila, here you go. Very minimalistic and the crisp blue goes a long way.

Favourite winter rituals

winter rituals | www.westcoastdreaming.com/10-winter-themes-bujo

As the winter months are very dark in this hemisphere, social and professional engagements usually pile up, I felt it was important to include a self-care prompt into my journal for the winter months. For this spread, I used the tangle pattern Joki again in this nice and crisp ice blue. Love my paper mate pens for this.

Mood tracker

mood tracker | www.westcoastdreaming.com/10-winter-themes-bujo

This is by far my favourite mood tracker that I have found. I love the mountain silhouette, and it was also very simple to set up. Simply place 5 slightly overlapping triangles on your page. Depending on the length of the month (30 vs 31 days) divide each mountain into 6 fields for your days. On a 31 day long month, divide the biggest triangle into 7 fields and the rest into 6 fields. Bada bing, bada boom… 😀

Include a colour code so you know which pen to grab when you feel Uh-mazing.

Weekly forest spread

december weekly spread | www.westcoastdreaming.com/10-winter-themes-bujo

This spread is next week’s log for me and I can’t wait to use it. As with the mountain mood tracker, I started out super simple by placing tall and narrow triangles on the bottom of the page in pencil. Then, I sketched out the branches and used my trusted marker to create clean black outlines. After that, I divided each tree into segments and started to fill them with layering strokes: place a candy cane type line first, then repeat that and fill in the entire segment. I should have foreseen that green would look much better for this page than black, so I switched over.

Another idea for a monthly page

November | www.westcoastdreaming.com/10-winter-themes-bujo

Even though November has already gone by you could use this cute layout for another winter month. My tip, start in pencil until you like the composition of your page, then use your black pen for the outlines. Again, this is super simple: I used a glass for the moon, simple lines for the branches, a thicker grey marker for shading and a red one for the berries, done.

Holiday gift planner

gift planner | www.westcoastdreaming.com/10-winter-themes-bujo

Oh, what would the holiday season be without frantically running around to get everybody a present? This page for your bullet journal helps you plan out and also budget for your gift ideas. The act of writing ideas and cost down will reduce the perceived stress and might even help reduce spending. Happy holiday shopping!

Another tangle: Ojo

Ojo tangle | www.westcoastdreaming.com/10-winter-themes-bujo

This cute little tangle pattern looks a little bit like snowflakes to me, so I gave it a try. What do you think?

ojo in action | www.westcoastdreaming.com/10-winter-themes-bujo

Two weeks ago, when I created the December monthly log, I forgot to leave a space for the last week of November. So what to do in case of a mistake? First of all, don’t panic. It is only a bullet journal. Secondly, be creative. I inserted a folded piece of paper for last week and adorned it with Ojo. I love this insert now.

Holiday activities

holiday activities | www.westcoastdreaming.com/10-winter-themes-bujo

What are your favourite holiday activities? Practice brush lettering and throw all your ideas on one page!

2018 favourite memories

memories | www.westcoastdreaming.com/10-winter-themes-bujo

Last but not least, I wanted to include a page to capture and reminisce on my favourite 2018 memories. I like this idea so much, that I am thinking of including it into every month, and then do a review at the end of the year. What a great way to focus on the positive, noting it down and creating memories that way.

These were my 10 winter themes for my bullet journal. Which ones have you tried before and which one is your favourite? Yes, I know, I am from Canada so I continuously spell “favourite” with a U. As you might have noticed, I budged for two of the spreads though. Thanks for reading.

Real life tips to get the Law of Attraction finally working for you

Real life tips to get the Law of Attraction finally working for you

Real life tips for the LoA | www.westcoastdreaming.com/real-life-tips-law-of-attraction

When you think about your heart’s desires, do you feel delighted that they are on their way to you? Or do you get sad and depressed that they haven’t manifested themselves yet? Does life keep you so busy that you feel there is no time for you to give attention to what fills your bucket?

Have you read “The Secret” or other books about the Law of Attraction, but just don’t get it right? You are not alone. I have been there, and sometimes it comes more natural than others. Along my way I have found a few things that might help you as well. These real life tips will get the Law of Attraction finally working for you.

According to many Law of Attraction Experts and The Secret, there are many techniques that are at your disposal to work the Law of Attraction to your advantage. However, every technique always informs the simple process of “Ask, Believe, Receive”. I like to call it “Ask, Believe, Achieve and Receive”. We will get to that.

Real-life story

I clearly remember the time in my life before I had heard of the Law of Attraction and The Secret. My life was lacking a sense of direction and a nagging voice told me constantly that I should have had this figured out already.

But after reading “The Secret”, things started to fall into place. I gained a sense of direction, and within two years, I had moved onto another continent and started my life from scratch.
The Secret was a great eye-opener for me and I love it dearly, but sometimes I found it a bit hard to grasp exactly what I was supposed to do.

Only until much later, became I aware that I was using the Law of Attraction to help me with this seemingly gargantuan task of leaving my hometown, security, friends and family. I just knew deep within myself, that this was what I wanted, what I wholeheartedly believed in and therefore I took action and received it. Feeling deep down in my heart that things would work out beautifully, I never questioned the how, I just felt it.

Within 2.5 weeks of arriving in Canada, I had landed a job in an amazing company, and we moved into our first rental apartment after only two months. It is important to note here, that we only viewed ONE apartment. Our new home was within our price range, almost brand new, beautiful and in a neighbourhood we liked. And we got it, even though we had no rental history and barely any references. We still got it. Law of Attraction in action.

So let’s break down the steps:

Ask

Frequency | www.westcoastdreaming.com/real-life-tips-law-of-attraction

According to the Law of Attraction and Quantum Physics, everything in our universe has a frequency. When our frequencies are aligned with the frequency of our desires, manifestation happens.

Clarity

Making an ask to the universe, you need to be crystal clear in your mind what it is you really want. Would you tell Amazon to send you “something you like” and then wait for it to show up? If you are vague about your ask, you will send conflicting frequency out to the universe and all you will receive back are conflicting messages and circumstances.

Words Matter

Choose your words wisely, your words are powerful tools that express your emotions and convictions. Negative words like no, not or never, don’t, are non-existent for the Law of Attraction. And it makes total sense. If you say, “I don’t want to struggle for money any longer.” your thoughts and emotions center on the fact that you struggle. You will receive more reasons to struggle. Work on shifting your words to the positive. It might feel awkward at first, but it will come naturally with time.

Funny side-note: I sing the song “You are my sunshine” to my daughter quite frequently. I reworded the last line from “Please don’t take my sunshine away from me” to “With you, my sun will always shine every day”. First, she contradicted me and told me that those where not the lyrics, but I got her used to this line now. So much more positive. *chuckle*

The How

It is not your job to concern you with the how. Your job is to be clear in your ask, believe wholeheartedly and to receive with open arms.

Once you have asked for it, trust that the universe will take care of it for you. Let’s use the same analogy again: If you placed an order on Amazon, would you order it over and over again, because it hasn’t arrived yet? Silly, right? It is the same with the Law of Attraction. Ask for it, clearly, in your mind or out loud and then move on to the next part.

Believe

Believe | www.westcoastdreaming.com/real-life-tips-law-of-attraction

After you have made the ask, believe that your dream is on its way to you. Believe, believe and believe a little bit harder. When we made the decision to move to Canada, everything I could think about was Canada. It was all I wanted to talk about. I believed that we would make it. There was no guarantee that we would be able to become permanent residents, but I believed in it.

Words Matter: Yes, they still do.

Do not contradict yourself with your thoughts, words and actions:
“I want this new job, but how am I going to be able to compete with 160 applicants?” Try to phrase it in the positive and repeat the statement over and over when doubts creep in: This is my job! My employer just doesn’t know it yet!” I said this to myself and friends over and over when I applied for my current job, which I absolutely love, love, love!

When in doubt

If you feel that doubt is rearing its ugly head, shift your energy, thoughts and feeling to something positive. Anything. Don’t allow doubt to settle in. You could try a few affirmations to shift your focus and notice the positive way these are worded:

  • I can do this!
  • My dream is on it’s way to me.
  • I am so grateful for what I have in my life.

Affirmations | www.westcoastdreaming.com/real-life-tips-law-of-attraction

Receive/Achieve

See how I tagged on the word Achieve to the holy trinity of Ask-Believe-Receive? It is because I strongly believe we need to take inspired action in order to achieve our dreams. As far as I have experienced, you will be so excited for your dream to become a reality that you will not want to sit still and wait for it to manifest. You will want to take action.Receive | www.westcoastdreaming.com/real-life-tips-law-of-attraction

Feel it

The Secret talks in great detail about feeling it. This was hard for me to understand. Use everything that is available to you to make you feel and believe that you have your dream already. Utilize as many props as you need to help you feel it. Mix and match until it feels right for you.

For me, there are a few areas  that I cannot imagine how I could feel like having them. For example, I tried shifting my mind to losing weight. I could never convince myself that I already had the body that I wanted when the opposite stared me right in the face every time I looked in the mirror. That does not mean it will not work for you. If you feel it, you can do it. I just take my inability to believe in it as a sign of my intuition that other areas deserve more of my attention than my weight.

When I now get the “I simply know it” feeling, I will do everything in my power to move into the direction of this feeling. I really believe that your feelings guide you to where you are meant to be. Things will fall into place.

Try these:

  • Buy a piece of gear that you will need when your dream manifests. For example, if you want to travel, make sure you have a good suitcase and your passport is up to date and valid.
  • Write a cheque to yourself with the exact amount you are asking the universe for and put it into your wallet.
  • Good vibrations: If you are stuck in the car commute to and from work, turn on your absolute favourite music, think of your dream and listen to your songs until you feel tingly all over. You’ll not only come home with a big grin on your face, but you are also shifting your energy and frequency to align it with what you wish for.

Vision Board

Create a vision board with one or all your dreams. Use cut-outs from magazines, newspapers or whatever you can glue, tape or pin somewhere. You can use a cork board or poster board and hang it at a wall you look at often, or you use a journal *winkwink*. Pinterest is also a good system for your vision board. 🙂 Just make sure you look at it often. I love doing this. It is so much fun.

Visualize, visualize and visualize some more. Seriously.

If you have your eyes set on a specific house, envision how you would decorate it, where you would put your things and how you invite your friends to your housewarming party.

Did you read the article about me landing my dream job? I visualized every morning where I would take a turn from the main road into town to drive out to my new job! I even saw my name above the email signature.

Gratitude

There are probably more gratitude exercises for me to list than you would like to sit through here. These are my favourite:

  • Monthly gratitude challenge
  • List all the things you are grateful for
  • Gratitude rock: select a rock that you like, put it in your pocket and every time you touch it, give gratitude for whatever comes to your mind.
  • Evening Gratitude – give gratitude for the day that has come to a close and express gratitude for the day ahead as if it already happened. So fun!

As I said, play around with what works for you. If you had an idea about something and it feels just right in your gut, go and follow this feeling.

And what does this have to do with Bullet Journaling?

Glad you asked. I have found that my bullet journal — that, by the way, I did not intend to start, it simply happened or fell into my lap — helps me with all three steps of this process.

In the beginning, I write my Ask as a statement into my journal. I get really clear on what I want and phrase it somewhat along those lines:

I visualize, desire and manifest for (insert here), to be/have (insert here). Describe your dream as vividly as you can mentioning different aspects of it to round it up.
I am so grateful for (insert reasons here).
I can do this!

Signature, date

Then, as I plan my months and weeks, I include the steps that I need to take as to-do’s in my journal. Break them down so they won’t overwhelm you. Just go one step at a time. I’ll also make sure to either include a gratitude challenge or little spaces for weekly gratitude notes into my spreads.

Taking my notes daily and watching my dream come true is incredibly inspiring.

What are your favourite ways to use your bullet journal to achieve your dreams? I’d love to hear your stories.
